MAKE A DIFFERENCE

You Can Become A Foster Parent

Becoming a foster parent will be one of the toughest, yet rewarding jobs you will ever have. It is important that you know what it means to be an AIFACS foster parent. The intention of foster care in general, is to provide temporary home for children.

These children come from a wide range of situations that have left their guardians unable to properly care for them. The ultimate goal of foster care is the reunification of child and biological parent(s) or guardian.

You don't have to be married to be a foster parent. You don't have to be rich to be a foster parent. All you need is a willingness to care for American Indian children in temporary need of a safe and nurturing home.

Foster parenting is not all sunshine and precious moments. You will be caring for children who have come from unthinkable situations. They may need special medical attention, and most have behavioral problems.

Foster parenting will change your life-style. One moment it is wonderful, the next, terrifying. However, you will not be alone. AIFACS has the support you will need. Foster parenting is such an enriching experience for you and the child you care for. You have the chance to bring hope into the life of a child who might never known the feeling.
